PARALLEL JOURNEY – TRACING NOLAN’S FOOTSTEPS
Linda Gallus
Gallus’ family come from the Wimmera. Her Grandfather was born in Dimboola and her Great Grandfather owned and ran the Dimboola General Store which catered for farmers and town’s folk. The artist Sidney Nolan was posted to Dimboola during World War II and used the shop next door as a studio. Here he drew, painted and developed ideas for his famous ‘Wimmera Series’.
Gallus has always been interested in this connection to her family and has stayed in the area to pursue her own artwork in response to Nolan’s Wimmera Series of paintings. Gallus has used his paintings as a reference and starting point for her own interpretation and response to similar or even the exact same places.
